Damien completes his apprenticeship

Damien Pellow is the first apprentice to complete an apprenticeship at local company Metal Surgery, based on the Kernick Industrial Estate, since the business was taken over by Falmouth Oil services in 2002.

After four years with the company Damien is now a qualified fitter-turner and received a certificate of his achievement from manager Kingsley Rickard.

“Metal Surgery has a valuable range of engineering skills which are unique in the South West” said David Randle, the Company Secretary. “We are keen, not only to retain these skills locally but also to invest in training for the future so that the tradition of Cornish engineering can be passed on to the next generation” he added.

The business has other apprentices at varying levels of experience and is committed to training for the future with widely respected trade apprenticeships of four years or more, as opposed to the shorter, modern apprenticeships. ”It’s a lengthy process but at the end of their training these lads will be able to fit in and work with our skilled fitters and technicians” said Kingsley Rickard, General Manager.
